???Glitter-Bombing??? GOP Politicians is Nothing New (ContributorNetwork)

The protest activity of "glitter-bombing" a politician has gotten someone in potentially deep trouble. Reuters reported Peter Smith, a college student, faces up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine for his "glitter-bombing" escapade Tuesday night in Denver toward former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

In the last year, other incidents of glitter-bombing GOP politicians have seen perpetrators get ejections instead of facing prosecution.

Rep. Michele Bachmann "glitter-bombed" in her home state

The Star Tribune reported in June that then-GOP presidential hopeful Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., was the target of a double "glitter-bomb" attack by gay rights activist Rachel E. B. Lang at a RightOnline Conference in Minneapolis. Lang was protesting Bachmann's anti-gay stances. For her actions, she was reportedly "hustled away" by security.

Tim Pawlenty "glitter-bombed" in San Francisco

Book signing events provide an opportunity for protesters to make mischief upon those whose policies they don't like. Just ask former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who got "glitter-bombed" with pink glitter and confetti while signing books in June during an America's Health Insurance Plans conference. The offenders were a couple of folks who didn't think he stood up enough for gay and reproductive rights, according to Politico.

The San Francisco Bay Area Independent Media Center reported the "glitter-bombers" were Code Pink activists Nancy Mancias and Chelsea Byers, who were escorted out of the building by the police for their protest actions.

Newt and Callista Gingrich "glitter-bombed" in Minneapolis

Sky News reported in May that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and his wife Callista had a box of silver glitter targeted at them (though the table the couple was sitting at got the brunt of the attack, per the accompanying video) by Nick Espinosa, who ranted at the GOP presidential hopeful, "Feel the rainbow, Newt. Stop the hate. Stop anti-gay politics. It's dividing our country and it's not fixing our economy." Espinosa was forcibly removed by security. Gingrich, at a book signing function, responded rather good-naturedly, saying, "Nice to live in a free country." He quickly removed the glitter that landed on his suit.
