Kan. county looking into earthquake insurance | Washington Examiner

Shawnee County commissioners have authorized the county's insurance broker to look into the cost of earthquake insurance.

The topic came up last week at a commission briefing on new quotes for property, automobile and excess workers' compensation insurance coverage.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/uPPScp ) that an official with the county's insurance broker noted that homes in Topeka were rattled in November by an earthquake and several aftershocks in Oklahoma. The official said earthquake insurance is fairly inexpensive.

Commission members said there's no harm in at least getting proposals for the coverage.

Autochartist - Daily Commodities Update: Heating Oil

A breakout from a well-developed Channel Down chart pattern in NYMEX Heating Oil futures paints a bullish picture to begin the trading year ahead. Autochartist has been tracking this development on the emerging patterns platform, with Friday's breakout highlighted here on the 240-minute candlestick chart.

The duration of the Channel Down pattern is quite substantial at 198 bars as measured between the inception point and the breakout. Though the breakout occurred on a low momentum reading, all other internal readings are quite strong. This suggests that follow-through buying to confirm the move is more likely to achieve or eclipse the forecast range.

While a pullback into the channel remains quite possible on a weaker opening, the resistance level will be worth watching for signs of near-term strength or weakness. A sharp decline would only temporarily negate the breakout signal and perhaps set up for a retest of support at the bottom of the channel. Barring that outcome, resumption to the upside should test the projected minimum target of $3.06 per gallon and perhaps rally to the upper end near $3.22 per gallon. This would imply a new leg of the long term bull market is under way.

To help usher in 2012, Kate Middleton's little sister, who makes her living as an event planner, pitched a tent in their parents' backyard and invited her royal brother-in-law, Prince William, to join in on the fun.

William and Kate, both 29, celebrated their first New Year's Eve as husband and wife Saturday at the bash thrown by Pippa, 28, in the garden of their family's Berkshire home.

Though the newlywed royals were expected to celebrate in Scotland with Prince William's father, Prince Charles, the duo detoured to the Middleton residence to party with her relatives instead.

The bash was held in a $4600 rented teepee-style 'kata' made of animal hides, which has been used by nomadic people in the country for cooking, smoking fish and as shelter from the elements, reports the U.K. Daily Mail.

Pippa's version, which included a dance floor and seating for 100 guests, was hailed as a "canvas palace."
